  1. This remarkable old man who is said to have been born in Mullindava, was a Protestant by religion. He was locally known during his life-time as "Davie Hutchinson" and spent a good part of his time in the making of Poteen, the name of which is Irish and which he distilled from malt made mostly from oats or from oats and barley.
    He was known to spend as long as seven weeks running a "go" of poteen and on such occasions he would distil about one hundred gallons of this illicit drink.
