    expect bad weather.
When distant mountains appear nearer than usual. rain may be expected. When road dust is seen to whirl, we may be sure of rain. Mountain streams and water-falls can be heard more distinctly when rain is approaching. Some rats have their homes on ships, but when a storm is approaching they are observed to leave the ship and swim ashore. When a column of smoke goes straight up form the chimney we may expect fine weather, but when it scatters about before going up we may expect bad weather.
