- During the Penal Days there were soldiers who wanted to catch priests. They asked a certain woman where the priests were and she told them that she would give them a sign. She shook oatmeal where they were. She shook the oatmeal at the mouth of a cave where the priests were. The birds picked the big grains of oatmeal but left the small ones. Then the soldiers came and got the priests. This happened at the Cobbler's Castle in the townland of Ballintubber parish of Ballyadams.
In the Penal Days the priests said Mass at the Cobbler's Castle and hid themselves in it. The soldiers used to catch the priests and cut off their heads. At that time they would get a pound for a priest's head.- Collector
