    At Hallowe'en we have nut-cracking. In Autumn we pick black-berries. Children amuse themselves during the Winter when they are sitting around the fire by telling stories. During the day when there is frost or snow on the ground, they make snow-men or they slide on the ice.
    "Cook". Any number can play in this game. There is one person in the den, the rest run off and hide. When they have hidden they say "cook" and the person in the den runs to look for them, whoever is caught last has to lie in the den the next time.
    "High-gates". The players all get around in a ring. One person has to stand in the middle and shut his eyes. He tries to catch one of the others. When he catches one he lets him go and chases him around the ring until he has him
