- Long ago the people used to make many old things in the houses.They made candles out of rushes.They got twelve rushes and dipped them in grease. They were called "tapers" or "dips". They also made splinter sticks out of bog dale for lighting at night.They used to grow flax,and they would pull it and put it in the bog-hole for a certain time,Then they would take it out and weave it into shirts and other clothes.
