- There is a Rath in Cardtown. It is in a field now owned by Rhody Culliton this year (1937-1928). Some years ago when this field belonged to a Mr William Long of Cardtown Barrack it was ploughed up and next morning the two horses were found dead in the stable ans the sods were turned back and the ground looked as if it had never been ploughed. It was never ploughed since. This rath is situated about 30 yards in from the high road.
Cardtown "Barracks" is now owned by Frank Hogan formerly of Gurteen Killanure. Years ago it belonged to a member of the Keeshan family named William (Bill) Keeshan who is still lliving in the Pike of Rushall Mountrath.I mention this family because they were a famous family in this district. This house is called the "Barracks" because it was an R I C station years ago.
