  2. In summer times when leaves are green,
    and blossoms bedecked each tree,
'Twas to Roscrea I took my way
By chance a maid did see,
I stood a while to gaze.
May the heavens above grant me this maid.
Whom i sing in her praise.
    Her lovely smiling countenance,
    And curling locks of hair
Fair Helen bright queen of the night
    Could not with her compare
This angel bright is my delight
My heart she has wounded sore.
    On lovely Nelly! pity me,
And I will ask no more.
