    turnips. Every night the people used to go over to Ballybrophy and steal the turnips. When the man found out about it he gave the people full permission to take all the turnips they wanted so the Rathdowney people and the Ballybrophy were not too hungry after all.
    That story was told to me by Mrs Hogan, The Conoboro, Rathdowney, Leix who is 80 years of age.
