- There are eleven fairs held in Rathdowney every year and one in the village of Donaghmore. The fair is held here every third Tuesday of the month.

Then the buyer gets back some money which is called the "luck -penny" and according to the price of the beast the "luck-penny" is given. It could be from a threepenny bit up to ten Shillings.
