- About twenty years ago in the centre of Rathdowney there was was a flourishing Flour Mill, owned by Mr Atkinson who resided where the Convent is at present. To this Mill the people of all the surrounding districts brought their wheat to be ground. There was another Flour Mill in Coolkerry (owned my a Mr Turney) of which the ruins are still to be seen at the back of the Golf Links. This showed that milling was a very prosperous industry here, About fifty years ago there was a Flour Mill in Eglish owned by a man named Mr Pratt.
