    (continued from previous page)
Once upon a time there lived a gentleman named Mr White of Charlevilla, Borris-in-Ossory. He hated a priest so much that he said he would prefer the devil to enter his house than a priest. One night he gave a great party, and while he was eating his supper he saw a cloven foot. Then he knew that the devil was beside him. He began to shout loudly and the priest was sent for, and he asked Mr White to know would he drive the devil up the chimney or out in the door. Mr White told him to drive him up the chimney, and the priest did so and Mr White never said a word against the priest after that.
