These little houses are not like the houses that we have nowadays. They were little small houses thatched with straw. There were no windows in them. The doors had to be left open to let in the light. There were no chimneys in these houses either. There was a hole in the roof to let out the smoke.
Where Des Hynes is living now, there was a hotel. Walsh was the name of the family, that lived in the hotel. There was a bakehouse at the back of the hotel. There were five ovens working in the bake-house every day. Walsh's also owned the bakery. When the stage coaches were travelling from Dublin to Cork they stopped at the hotel and left the coaches in a big house in the yard. There was another stop for the horses about 50 yards away. It is now turned into the Borris-in-Ossory billiardroom.
