- During the Land-League times a very strange burial took place in a grave-yard in Mountmellick. One day a hearse drove up to the gate. The coffin was taken out, and as is the custom was taken around the graveyard. During this procession it was noticed that the bearers were changed several times before the coffin was placed in the grave.
As time went on, it was noticed that the grave never sank. The curiosity of a few young men was aroused and one night they dug the grave and opened the coffin, but found nothing inside only a sheet of lead.(continues on next page)- Collector
