  1. Forty years ago there was an old Mill in our district. It was worked by water. Here large rolls of cloth and frieze were made and sent away.
It was a large three-storey building. The ruin is still standing but it is in a sad state with windows broken and slates fallen off.
Forty men were employed here and Daddy still talks of their sad plight when the Mill was closed,
About ten years ago the machinery and the large wheel which was believed to be the largest in Ireland were taken away.
The district around is still called Barkmills.
