  1. On a calm September evening in 1933 a cloud burst over Sconce and the rain fell for half an hour on an area of fifty acres and while the torrents lasted you would imagine it was rivers flowing down from the sky.
    The water ran down the mountain side bringing woth it everything removable. it brought crops from the adjoining fields and over nine tons of potatoes were found in a circular plot below Briscoli school and in the bed of the river as far as Mountrath.
