There is a path of ground between M'Clure's house and Portlaoighise Railway Station and it is known as the ''Shaky Grounds'', because it is very swampy and low lying. It is said a little girl once went out after her ducks, and that they had led her into the swamp, where she was drowned, and that she is to be calling to them to this day, on any Winter evening.
Other names are Cushion's high fields, because they are belonging to Cushions and also because they are up on a hill. The Crab Fields owned by Odlumn's so called because of the group of crab treesthat form the hedge. There are also plum trees in this field and children from the neighbourhood of Clonroosh go up to gather them in the months of August and September. There are two rows of houses on the road leading up to Clonroosk and between these roes, many years ago there was a dance board where the young people of the neighbourhood used to assemble in the evening and dance. the board was taken away and in its place sprung up a large crab tree which never bears any fruit.
