- Port Laoighise is a thriving town.It has two important industries milling and weaving. The flour mills belong to Mr Odlum they were built in 1911 a.d. These were not the first mill that were in Port Laoighise. There was a flour mill in Mellick and there is another in Green Mill lane.
In Bridge Street there was a man named Mr Lawler. He was a wheel-wright. There was another man by the name of Mr Lyons. He made staples, pig-rings and nails. He lived in Bridge Street also.
