- If you get a potato and cut it into two parts and carry one part around in your pocket until it withers it is supposed to cure pains. Rub an onion on chilblains and it will cure them A cure for sore eyes is to wash them with black tea. A cure for a sore throat is to put roasted potatoes in a stocking and tie them around your neck. If you put salt that has been warmed, in a stocking and put it around your neck it will cure a sore throat. Another cure for a sore throat is to gargle it with salt and water.
