- A man lived four miles from my home. This man was very miserly. He had a lot of money and did not want to make up any of his friends or neighbours with it. So he decided on hiding it in some field or fort. One night he started out to hide his treasure. He walked for some distance until at length he came to an old fort. Here he decided to leave his gold. He visited this place very often until at length it was the will of God to take him from this world. About a year after his death a neighbouring man dreamt that the gold was hidden in the fort. He dreamt that he had to bring a dog with him before he would get this great treasure. He started out on his journey. When he came to the fort he dug down for about two foot and he then found the rat, the dog chased the rat and put an end to his life. The man dug down about one foot further and here he found a golden crock and it was full of gold coins. Quickly he took up the crock and ran home to tell his wife and family of his wonderful luck.
