When the married couple have the wedding the matchmaker will expect a glass of whiskey "with beaded bubbles winking at the brim"
This is a superstitious belief of the bride to wear something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue at the marriage. An old custom is to throw an old show after the bride and groom when they are leaving the house to conduct the marriage. Another old observance of the people is to throw rice on the married couple when they are leaving the Church after their marriage. A hundred and thirty years ago marriages took place in the farmers' houses. It was mostly in the bride's houses that the nuptial ceremony was celebrated.
