Constable Kelly secured promotion for his cruel act. Some years later he was pensioned off, and he established a business place in Hillstreet about five miles East of Elphin. Later on Hillstreet happened to be the place chosen for a football match. On one of the teams one of the kickers happened to be a young fellow of the name of John Hogg. After the match the players adjourned to Kellys public house for refreshments. In the course of conversation Hoggs name was mentioned. Kelly who was serving behind the counter heard the name and collapsed. He had to be carried to his room where he remained for some time in a serious condition. I suppose he thought that the ghost of the murdered Hogg had come to upraid him for his wicked deed.
Sons and daughters and grandchildren of this man Kelly hold prominent positions in the world of business today.
P.S. This John Hogg has two nephews John and Michael both Old Age Pensioners living at present in Tartan, Ballinameen, Boyle, Co. Roscommon.
