The following is a song composed by Michael Rogers ex. N.T. late of Callow National School. He died about eleven years ago and was then about 85 years of age. He was replaced in Callow School by the present Mr. M. Rogers. This poem was written on the occasion of the death of a school-mate of his and an Aunt of the present Dr J. W. Beirne Frenchpark.Mary Óg Machree

Dear Erin’s heath-clad mountains,
Are beautiful to view,
Likewise her hills and fountains
And lakes of rolling blue.
But on these hills and sparklings mills
There are no joys for me
Since You beneath the clay now sleep
Young Mary Óg Machree.

And fond memory brings me back,
The hours when over the mountains wild,
I wandered through those perfumed bowers
With Mary young and mild.
