The greatest walker in living memory was Thomas Kenny Elphin. He was a retired soldier and a messenger for O'Connor of the palace Elphin. Often he was sent on a message to Dublin and he left Elphin at seven o'clock in the morning and was back in Elphin at seven the following evening. Dublin is a distance of one hundred miles.
Patrick Casserley often drove cattle from this district to the port of Derry a distance of one hundred and forty miles. Many people from this district when going to England for the harvest used to walk to Dublin or Drogheda.
Roddy Fallon of Lisboy Elphin could jump over three horses standing alongside one another. A man named Bartley living at Boheroe Elphin used to jump from one pier of the gate at Ryefield chapel and jump to the other a distance of twelve feet.
The greatest mowers of this district in olden times were John Burns Creeveolan Elphin and Thomas Casserley Cloonybrennan Elphin. Each of them could mow more than an Irish acre in the day. Burns was a small man and he was known to(continues on next page)
