- (continued from previous page)a big timber fire in the middle of the floor. Another method was to make candles out of grease and two woollen threads for a wick. Those were called dip candles. The also used lighted rushes. A Sply of bog deal was another method. Candles were made in this district. In Creevy there was a small house built and every Monday and Saturday the men assembled and made candles out of grease and thread. When the men were going home they brought as many candles with them as would last a week.
