- When my mother was young the people used to be grumbling about their churning no matter how long they would keep churning they would have no butter. My aunt told me the manner in which it is believed the butter could be brought. If you go around a demesne wall and pick the blossom of the hawthorn and rub it on the cows udders you will get the butter. Another way for bringing the is to go into a house when a person is churning. Do not take the churn but light your pipe with a coal from the fire. Then go out again and you will have the butter out(continues on next page)
