- In olden days doctors were not very numerous. The people cured themselves of their ailments. If a person got a cut he put salt on it, or a cob-web, or a piece of comfrey. People who had corns applied to them the juice of boiled ivy leaves and washed the corn with the water. Another cure for a corn was to put on it house-leek powered finely with the hammer.
