- In olden times people got married during Shrove tide. The people who were invited went walking in twos into town with the marriage couple. When the marriage ceremony was over the relations of the bride and bride-groom went down town and took a room where they went home to the wedding feast. After the wedding the people escorted the marriage couple to thieir home. This procession was called "the hauling home" or "dragging home".
