    in former times. The hurleys that were used were made from ash, blackthorn and whitethorn. They were made by the men of the District. The ball they used was a spool, or a piece of timber made in the shape of a ball. The men who were famous on the field were Paul Hansbury and Michael McGarry.
    The outdoor amusements that were in vogue were handball, bowling, weight throwing, jumping and football.
