Some people would not give milk away or give out money on the first day of May. Some people still believe in tying posies to a stick and leaving them to wither for good luck for the year.
Some people believe in sowing crops on certain dates for luck. They regard Good Friday as being a lucky day for sowing crops. Crops are supposed to be late and a failure if sown after 23rd of April or the call of the cuckoo.
