  1. Back to the Land
    The grass lands of old Erin
    So fertile and so green,
    Are in for a tearin'
    Now it's plain to be seen.
    While the land is dividing
    The landless people are quite -
    Hardly a word of cattle-driving
    Or shooting people for spite.
    New houses are being erected,
    Replacing old ones bettered down
    The work of centuries neglected,
    People in country and town.
    Mud cabins are fast disappearin'
    Now left to the rats and frogs;
    To any land the people are careenin'
    Out of the swamps and bogs.
    Fences I note are being made
    On holdings both big and small;
    Oh! the Lord knows Im afraid
    There wont be land for us all.
