- Potatoes are usually planted in ridges in this district. It is said that the sounder and better potatoes are got out of drills. If the weather permits, the main crop is sown from the end of February to the middle of March. The potatoes are usually planted in a grazing field.
First of all the manure is drawn out and scattered evenly over the field. The field is then ploughed into ridges abut five feet wide. The ridges are then well-raked with an implement called a "griffaun".
The potatoes which are intended for planting are cut into pieces, each piece having two or three eyes. In the following manner these pieces are then planted.(continues on next page)- Collector
