- A Story
It is related in this district that one of Lord Crofton's fore-fathers arrested and imprisoned for a week in their mansion in Mote Park a priest.
On the day of the trial he (the priest was placed in the dock, and as the trial was going on a messenger came into the court-house and informed the judge and the counsellors that there were twelve Catholic clergymen each holding a lighted candle in his hand, marching two deep in the direction of the court, and although the wind was blowing very strong at the time still the candles remained lighting
When the judge heard this he became terrified and he immediately discharged the prisoner.- Informant
