  1. Old Schools
    Hedge schools existed in several places but none in this locality. The teacher was paid by the pupil who gave them a penny a day for the days they went to school.
    Subjects.
    Were reading, writing, arithmetic and spelling. The Irish language was not spoken at all.
    Books
    The principal books were English.
    Writing
    Was done with pen made from goose quills. They made their own ink from the juice of elder berries. The most writing was done with the pen. The sums were done on slates and slate pencils were used.
    There were no hedge schools in this locality, but a Peter Duffily taught in his own house. He was born in this place and lived near St Johns wood. He had
