  1. (continued from previous page)
the dog was wounded but it escaped and entered a neighbouring house. My cousin entered the house thinking that she would find the hare but instead found the woman that had been milking in the field. My cousin asked the woman had she seen a hare. She answered "no" but she was bleeding very badly. My cousin asked her why she was bleeding but the woman did not answer. Upon the crane over the fire there was a bucket, a spancel and a horseshoe. In the bucket there was a little milk. My cousin then got suspicious and went to the priest to whom she told her story. He came and after much close examination found out that this woman was in league with the devil and was able to practice the devilment. The woman was then arrested and afterwards "burned at the stake".
The priest then said mass in the house of my cousin and neither her cows nor her butter troubled her ever since.
