- When Mr Ashe was a boy people wore no boots except on Sundays going to Mass. Boots were not worn to any extent until 1870.
A man by the name of Diarmuid Gabha never wore a boot. He could drive a spade through the hardest ground with the naked foot.When feet were washed the water was kept and not thrown out til the last representative of the family came home.
This was supposed to keep away evil spirits.- Informant
