  1. Long ago there was a fair in Loughrea and a man started for it during the night. He had to pass by an old cottage that no one was living in and he saw a light in it and went in and what did he see before him but a crowd of fairies dancing about the house and another old fairy playing a bagpipes in the corner. When the fairies saw the man they all ran out the door, and disappeared away.
    The man then continued his journey and when he was going near Loughrea he saw a light in another house and he went in to see what was in it. There was a man and his wife living in it and there was a young baby in the cradle crying. The man looked at the child and he knew that it was the fairy he saw in the other house playing the bagpipe.
    The woman went up in the room after a while and the man followed her up, and he told her that, that wasn't their child but the fairy he had seen in the other house. He told them to throw it into the fire, and just as they were doing so, it vanished up
