  1. Long ago the people had several cures for their diseases. When they had the measles they used to eat or drink food left behind by a ferret, or when they had a toothache they used to put pepper into the tooth. Holy-wells were often visited by those people to cure several ailments, such as the whooping-cough the measles etc.
