- The Famine caused great harm to this district. All the potatoes rotted. There was a building by the sea full of biscuits but the food was thrown out into the sea, although the people were starving all round. This building was by my house. Some Catholics sold their religion for soup, and are called soupers since then. Sometimes the potatoes rotted in pits. There are places which are said to have been places into which the dead people were thrown.
