- The people were about twenty years old long ago before they wore shoes. They wore them every Sunday going to mass. And they did not wear them any other time. The children now do not wear shoes in the summer but they wear them in the winter. It is not right to throw out the water you would have washing your feet until morning. There are no shoes made around here now but they are repaired. The name of the man that repairs them is Michael Murphy. His father and grandfather were shoemakers. Some of the people used wear wooden soled shoes. They used be made in Kileenleigh. Some of the people wore skins. They used be made in the shape of a stocking.
