  1. An old man who was called "Jolly Rags" used to come to my house begging. He used to take his bed around in a bag. One day as he was passing our house he came in and the alms he used to take were meal or flour. My mother gave him a basin of meal and when he was putting it into his bag she told him to pray for the souls in Purgatory and he got very cross and threw the basin and said "Your soul to the devil".
