    Famine Times
    with vermin and disease. So awful was her plight, nobody dared do anything to alleviate her suffering. At length somebody thought o building a house all around the suffering woman. This was done, a thatched roof was put on and a small window was made.
    A long handled vessel was then procured and by this means, food was put in to the poor woman who eventually recovered.
    That year a Mr. McGivern had a very good crop of potatoes which he generously gave to all who came for them. An old man reproved Mr McGivern for his generosity telling him that he would let his own family starve. Mr McGivern replied that as long as the potatoes lasted, he would. not allow anybody to starve.
