- Most children make a great many toys. I often made a sling out of rubber and a stick tied together. Many boys often make a shotgun. It is is made of an old carbine box. Make a hole in the box and place it flat on the floor. After this light a match and put it against the hole of the box. Then the cover will burst out and will make a big shot.Other boys make a whistle of two cartridges. Put on into the other. Then put a hole in the cartridges and you will have a good whistle.I often made a ball out of horse's hair. Boys always on a frosty night fill a bottle of water and put the cork in it. If the cork would not fly out, the bottle would be burst in the morning.
