- Previous to 50 years ago the peasants of this district in addition to observing the Lenten fast observed a self imposed fast on the afternoon of Saturday before Easter Sunday in order to be able to eat a great number of eggs on Easter morning. In addition to usual breakfast of the period all seemed to compete in the eating of the eggs - many ate up to 12, while some ate as much as 18. The number eaten by each person began to decline about 40 years ago. Children also had a feast during the day.
- The usual fish and milk for dinner was displaced by "Cnuasach" gathered from certain strands. Poor peasants used this on other occasions also, to spare fish. Cnuasach is unobtainable now on almost all the rocks where it abounded 40 years ago.
