  1. Up to 50 years ago in this locality, the headless coach was commonly believed to travel certain roads about midnight. Some held that a carriage could be seen whilst others held that they could see nothing but could hear the noise as of a carriage being driven quietly along. It later became to be applied to any person habitually late in returning from town on market day.
