tanning was once a flourishing industry in Kinsale, but the only remembrance of it now is a dilapidated old house (a gaunt relic of those good old days) called still The Tannery. Barrels and ladders were made to a certain extent. There is still a member of the former craft living called "Conn the Cooper". I am so used to hearing him called by this name that I don't know his real name.
The town is in such a state of poverty at present, with half its inhabitants unemployed, that we all hope, that the times may improve, that factories may spring up, and that once again Kinsale may become a flourishing town with happy inhabitants.
