    There is a well in the townland of Garrettstown...

    There is a well in the townland of Garrettstown in the parish of Ballinspittle Co. Cork. The water in this well is supposed to have a cure for sore eyes. Rounds used to be performed up to about ten years ago. Long ago when the surrounding district was owned by a Protestant named Cuthbert his steward drained the well and when he came to it next day it was full again. He died a cripple soon afterwards. About twenty years later another steward named O Neill filled the well with stones and when he returned home his son was dead. It was a custom for the people who used to go to the well to leave something there after
