- In the olden times hurling was the only game played by the young men and boys in the country districts.They used assemble at practice matches on Sunday evenings.It was not until the early eighties that the people turned to football. Very often the people used to play what was called conquering matches sometimes between two townland and very often between two parishes.In former times there were no certain rules laid down for football.
