- The people that have drills plough them first. Then they dig them. Another person picks the potatoes into a bucket. Ridges are dug with a spade. Then they make a pit and sort the small potatoes from the big ones. They put the big potatoes into the pit. Then they cover them with rushes briars and earth to keep them dry. They make another pit in the garden for the small potatoes and they cover them also.
