    fine day because people say :- "Happy the bride the sun shines on. Some say :- "Marry young and be ever young" others say "Marry in haste and repent in leisure".
    In those days there were usually 7 or 8 marriages on Shrove Tuesday. It was always an exciting day in Meelin. The large wedding parties came to the church in side-cars and saddled horses, galloping madly. After the marriage, each party would return to the bride's home and continue wedding festivities till next morning.
    Sometimes a band of "strawboys" would call and join in the festivities. These were dressed in straw from head to heel, they would remain for some time dancing
