    payment is being made. The buyer also marks the animals bought; in case of cattle by clipping the hair on the hip with a scissors, and sheep and bonhams with a red or blue colouring matter.
    The money given for "luck" depends on the sort of man the buyer is dealing with. One man will give him twice as much as another. There are two fixed sums for the different classes of animals and the amounts vary from 6d to 1/- per head for bonhams to 2/6 for cows.
    Besides the cattle fairs there are also two horse fairs held in Newmarket yearly.
    The greatest fair held in North Cork during the year is the Cahirmee horse fair on July 12th.
